Sandra is a young girl in school and is excited to attend her friend, Edna Mae's, birthday party. Both girls are heartbroken that none of the other girls from class did not show up at the party. Sandra and Edna Mae make the most of it, though and enjoy the party. Sandra tells her mother how sad Edna Mae was when only Sandra showed up to the party. Sandra feels terrible that the other children would already be prejudiced against Edna Mae just because of her skin color. The selection is from the point of view of a child, and the voice requires pitches in the higher range for the children as well as the modulated voices of the two mothers in the story.

I have been a narrator of literature as well as a textbook reader and checker for Learning Ally since 2016. I have currently logged 1,100 service hours, mainly in Narration and Textbook reading. My professional career began as an opera singer, where I performed in Florida, Virginia, New York and Georgia. I earned roles in Pensacola Opera, Virginia Savoyards, as well as been chosen for works with Symphonies as a soprano soloist throughout the US. I spent 15 years teaching at three separate universities, one of which I was a full time instructor teaching voice classes, Music History, and Diction. I’ve spent years singing and speaking in Italian, German, French and recently, Spanish. Many of the textbooks I’ve read for Learning Ally are in German and some beginning Spanish textbooks. To date, I have been one of two readers for 8 German textbooks, ranging from beginning to college level. My true love is Literature. Because I have spent so many years singing in German, I have recorded several Literature books that are set in World War II Europe. I spent many hours learning songs in Yiddish and researching the proper pronunciation and cultural practices regarding Jewish traditions in German Hungary and Poland. I am proficient in researching and reading medical language, as I have had the opportunity to read some chapters of medical texts. My years of performing in musical theater began at the age of 10. I have been cast in roles most recently with two professional companies here in Savannah, GA.. I frequently perform with the Savannah Children’s Theatre in MainStage as well as Grown Ups on stage performances (specializing in theater in the round of kids books). Reading children’s books, especially those that use cartoon characters are also projects that I truly enjoy. Having been a soprano and voice teacher for 25 years allows me to have a large repertoire of sounds and characters. Pitching the voice high and modulating it keeps the story alive for the little ones. I’ve also been a reader (by chapter- not always entire textbooks) for various subjects including Social Work, Psychology, Chemistry, Meteorology, History, Early Readers for Primary grades, Maternal Medical textbooks. The most recent professional audio books include my debut with McGee Matthews series "The Ladies of Diamond Lake" with forthcoming books from the five book series.
